wrinkles and stains

The man who knows he knows nothing is smarter than the
man who thinks he knows everything.  Live simple. Live beautiful.

Texture is defined as "the visual and especially tactile quality of a surface" and we use more than one sense to experience it.
The grand reality of natural texture has always been a major interest of mine - the vast variety in this world.
This image reveals what society is terrified of: old age, pure love, and stains.  I find the texture of his aged face, his weathered beard, and his watery eyes is the epitome of reality. Both beautiful and imperfect.

My example is this particular image taken by Joey Lawrence.  Joey is a young photographer who grew up in Lindsay, Ontario and now lives in NYC, travels the world, and does a lot of commercial work as well.  He has had great success and very little training.  This photograph is from one of his personal collections titled "Street" - a collection of inspirational photographs of individuals struggling on the streets.  Lawrence captures the essence of that struggle amazingly in his work.

  2. I clicked on the link and I looked through the works in the "personal" part of his portfolio, and I really enjoyed the experience. All of the photos that were listed in the personal section seem to have a heaviness to them, as though Joey Lawrence's mission was not to make stylized images, but to stuff the entire souls and essences of his subjects inside his photographs. Thank you for introducing me to this amazing artist!
