texture in animation

Being an animation fan, I see this Pixar teaser trailer the absolute masterpiece concerning rendering skills for texture. This is for their new work, Brave, coming to theaters next year.

This trailer is rich of texture. You can see the details on the rocks, the sharp blades of grass, the rough barks on trees, the horse's soft hair and the fully orange hair of the main character. But not only that, you can also feel the mist and the cold atmosphere. The intense feeling of being in those woods. Like even the logo has texture on it! Along the Celtic design, you can see the gold metal surface of the letters.
3d rendering has came so far that these simulations is just a hairline away from a real scenery, they could connect to our senses and make us feel like we're a part of the movie.
